Smart Solar Pump Regulator - SmartSPR

The smart solar pump regulator (SmartSPR) has been developed to facilitate the implementation of affordable small scale solar powered pumping solutions for use in livestock watering and other water transfer applications that involve regular replenishment of water tanks or troughs.

SmartSPR can be used in conjunction with ordinary DC pressure pumps to alter their operating behaviour from demand to replenishment.  The replenishment operating mode involves the pump being forced to operate intermittently so that the battery experiences only shallow discharge cycles and the pump never becomes hot.  Pulse width modulation (PWM) technology is employed to implement "soft starting" of the pump for extended pump and battery life.

By publishing the design in the public domain (click here to access project folder) it is hoped that individuals and/or organisations might choose to produce SmartSPR devices so that solar powered pumping systems can become more readily available to the many farmers and rural residents who do not have adequate running water services.
